PURRRRRR!

The topic for today is… “What is your favorite animal?”
Here are my top 3—

Emperor-Penguins

#3 Penguins- Penguins are very sophisticated animals. They get all dressed up in their little penguin tuxedos. They hang out with their buds in the cold. They enjoy a good walk and a nice swim. Other than menacing sea life waiting under the ice to devour them and the really cold temperatures in the Antarctic, penguins seem pretty charmed.

River Otter Playing

#2 Otters- River otters more so than sea otters, but what the heck, they are both pretty amusing. Some time ago, Disney distributed cool 16mm movies about nature.   No matter how hard Disney worked to make otters look serious, they were always sliding down the snow covered hill or splashing around with their little river buddies. It just seemed like they were having such a good time. I am all for that. But if you’re going to live like an otter, have fun with a work ethic.

#1 Panthers- I dig panthers. There aren’t many animals who have all the tools. Panthers do. Panthers are smart. They are brave. They are sleek. They are beautiful. They capture my attention. I know a few people who remind me of panthers. They are just so elegant and so cool! I used to like hanging out watching the panthers at the zoo. Ironically, I am not a cat person.  Panthers are the exception. Any one want to go to the zoo and see the panthers?

The bottom two?
It is a tie! Here are my bottom two. It hasn’t always been this way, but over the past year or so they have really started to bug me. What are the two animals that bug me the most?

No, not those. Elephants and donkeys are fine, proud animals. I’m talking about these.

Lets start with the donkey. Are Bernie and Hillary the best the Democratic Party could do? They both make me nervous. No matter what some people say, Secretary Clinton hasn’t earned a whole lot of trust.  Sen. Sanders leans just a little too far left for my tastes. Vice-President Biden drew the short straw. He did have a lot of personal issues when candidates hit the campaign trail. But Biden was the veep for two terms.  I vote for the donkey from Shrek!

Elephants used to be fun. You remember the original animated “Dumbo” and the more recent “Dumbo Drop?” That was entertainment.  Now, the Republicans are taking all the joy out of this election cycle. Trump continues to stir up hatred for people who are already on the margins. Yeah, that is what bullies do.  Sen. Cruz is not much better. Problem is, when it comes to life-lines, he has trouble finding a friend to phone. Remember Ronald Reagan? He had the temerity to ask the Soviet Union to tear down a wall. Now Trump and Cruz both want to build one to keep people out who seek freedom and opportunity.  Gov. John Kasich seems to be a man of reason. But the Republican big-wigs don’t seem to favor him.  He is from Ohio.  I trust him.

November will eventually arrive.  No matter who wins, I am confident our next president will do all in his or her power to help America’s kids enjoy their lives, their liberty, and their pursuit of  happiness.  C’mon, let’s go see the panthers!

Dancing, Dreams, and Food!

I’m not much of a dancer.  Back in elementary school we had a square dancing unit in PE.  It was in the seventh grade that our four couples won the school’s square dancing contest held during Parada del Sol week.  Other than that, I don’t have much else to say about my dancing skills.

Dancing isn’t going on my resume!  Square dancing, really?

This past weekend was very, very busy.  We celebrated the joyous wedding of our oldest son Klayton and his new wife McKenna.  The rehearsal dinner  was Thursday night.  As the parents of the groom we had the pleasure of hosting the get together at the Village Tavern.  Looking for mighty fine prime rib?  Hard to find better.  Friday was spent with extended family.   Folks from Illinois came to town who wanted to be a part of the celebration.  We had plenty of food and beverages.  We also took the party to Portillo’s Hot Dogs.  Want good Italian beef?  Not much better in town!

Brothers… Looking good!

Saturday arrived!  It was a gorgeous day!  After more than a year of planning, the Barrett-Chew wedding was at hand.  Nothing better than some old fashioned Dunkin Donuts to start the day. Then came more snacking and more beverages.  The wedding went off without a hitch!  A very beautiful bride and a very handsome groom met in front of family and friends and vowed to forever love one another.  Tears of joy all around.  It was time for beverages and heur d’oeuvres.  The little fire cracker rolls and bruschetta was pretty tasty.  Then it was on to the catered dinner.  Pastas and veggies.  More beverages, too!

Mom and Son… this was moving.

Sunday, because everyone was starving for not having eaten for at least six hours, it was off to the San Marcos Golf Resort for brunch and more beverages.  The San Marcos staff out did themselves.  Choices ranged from boxed cereal to tri-tip pastry puffs.  Three times thru the line.  I managed a little self constraint!

All weekend long, people testified to the character and love shared by Klayton and McKenna.  It did this father’s heart good to know that they are a couple who will support one another as they live together day-to-day.  Whose bountiful love for one another is communicated in the way they look at one another, talk to one another, and care for one another.  As I have come to know McKenna, I truly believe that she is a wonderful partner for my son.  As they continue to dance, they will hold each other up, love one another fully, and live to ensure they capture their dreams.  Today, the whole Chew family is blessed and much better off!

McKenna… Welcome to the family!
McKenna… Welcome to the family!

We started this blog with dancing, so let’s end it with dancing.  I had the pleasure of having a very first dance with my brand-spanking new daughter-in-law. The most I can say for my dancing was I didn’t step on her feet or ruin her dress.  The best I can do is help keep their dreams alive.

Klayton and McKenna! Forever!
